| Personality | ||||||
| I was introduced to the concept of personalities during a
time when I was in a transition and trying to identify myself. I had the
opportunity to take the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and it explained
many ideas to me. The MBTI shows that I am INTP (you can learn what that
means here, here,
or here - some randomly 'googled'
websites that I found reasonable). Some people find the idea that we can be categorized offensive - usually an initial response people have when I mention personality tests. However, this isn't about judging who you are, but a way to better understand yourself and people around you. My interpretation of what personality test is this: We are all unique individuals and different in many ways. However, you know that you and some of your friends share traits that are mutual (e.g. he/she always keeps schedules while others go by the moment). The commonalties are what personality tests try to group and understand; when you are dealing with millions and billions of people, there has to be some, if not many, overlap in personality traits - MBTI is just one refined version, but also happens to be popular (I heard 2 million tests are taken a year). |
